Office 2007 -- Careful

Strengths: Visually more interesting Intuitive interface -- once you get used to it

Weakness: Files are not compatible with the versions of the Office that most of the world still uses. Outlook 2007 is NOT included. The low price of this version is deceiving becasue you have to buy an add-on.

I suspect someday that the interface on this program will seem "normal", but it takes getting used to, and any time something with which you are quite familiar changes, it causes frustration. A little like rearranging the location of everything in your supermarket. Eventually you'll see the improvements, but in the short run it drives you buggy.
Another reason to delay upgrading is that files created in 2007 are not compatible with earlier versions of Office -- which is still used by 95% of the people you might be sharing files with. They can get a reader to interpret your files, or you can save them in the earlier format, but this is guaranteed to cause you some difficulty sometime.
Why on earth would Microsoft not include Outlook in this package? Probably to charge you another $100 or so to buy a copy. So while this version of Office seems a bargain, by the time you add a copy of Outlook it is far less so.

I agree that Outlook is a good mail client--I used it at work--but is it really an essential upgrade over Live Mail? The feature I've most missed with Live Mail is the inability to fully nest folders.

I understand that windows 7 has no mail program. outlook and outlook express actually get the mail from your ISP. ISP's want out of the mail business. Too costly for a decent program. I believe you will be pushed to use one of the internet based programs. personally i have used yahoo mail for 12 years or so and it has always been superior to microsofts half made programs. Oh, I have used yahoo in my business for that long also.

Office 2007 Home and Student (Full Product, PC)

Strengths: includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint

Weakness: does not include Outlook

Good product for the price compared to Office Standard or Business editions. Included programs are sufficient for the average home user. The only thing missing is Outlook which is not important if you have an email account through Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.

Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007

Strengths: New features, new GUI, more capable, install 3 PCs and great price!

Weakness: No Outlook

Neat look, new features and cheaper price for 3 install PCs. Drawback is no outlook included. The fine print on the package states "not for use in any commercial, nonprofit, or revenue-generating business activities, or by any government organization." If you look for Microsoft Office with your limit budget and don't need Outlook, it is for you.

What a gem!

Strengths: The new "ribbon" and being able to see font and format changes as you SCAN through the possibilites.

Weakness: Some standard features are not where you would expect them.

I have been using this software for a couple of months now via a MicroSoft trial of the full version. It is very "Apple like" in the way it handles but this is a good thing. All of the print and save things are "hidden" in the button at the upper left of the screen. With mine being a "trial" I have had to be careful to save as a Word 2003 document to transfer to other machines. All-in-all I am positively impressed. With a download, I have had no manuals or any help other than "try" I really LIKE it!

I like it!

Strengths: License for 3 computers, OneNote, Create PDF files. New UI and this UI is more intuitive then in the past.

Weakness: New docx, xlsx, and pptx file formats. New UI to learn but the new UI is also a big strength.

Office 2007 Home/Student comes with Word, Excel, Power Point, and OneNote. I mostly use Word but sometimes use Power Point and excel in the past. I always have to learn the menu structure when a new office version comes out. However, office 2007 uses a different system called ribbons which is very user friendly and intuitive, so much so that I missed it in OneNote, which uses a menu UI.

The standard file output for Word, Excel, and Power Point has an "x" added to the extension. The format is not compatible with the old version of Office, however, you can output using the old file format version. Writing to pdf format is great. Office can also read the old file format versions.

I really like OneNote. I the past, when I do research on the internet (like for a vacation trip), I used a program to save the web pages so I organize them and can read them offline. I could organize them somewhat using tags and other things but Office OneNote is so much better! It also integrates with other programs so I can add simple spread sheets into OneNote for expensiveness.

You will have to try and use OneNote, and then you will appreciate its power

Strengths: More robust; icons make for less time navigating menus

Weakness: Larger tool bars reduce work screen

Icons provided in lieu of drop down menus for many style and editing functions; more robust applications.

Since drop down menus have been replaced, it is sometimes difficult to find functions; use of icons increased size of toolbars, reducing size if work screen

Strengths: More visual representation of actions and tabs of sets

Weakness: Slow to load. Several key common actions no longer one click

New layout takes some getting used to as much of the desktop has changed or been rearranged. Use of tabs for moving between major function groups instead of having to add toolbars is a nice touch. Software loaded far slower then 2003 but once it is running there did not seem to be a lag. Visual representations of things like fonts and layouts help choose selections quickly. Being able to put it on 3 systems a big plus.

Office 2007 Home & Student

Strengths: New features added to software that was already good. Being able to preview what a font change will look like as you scroll through the list of fonts, for example, is nice.

Weakness: There doesn't seem to be a way to make this new version look like the old one, so it takes a minute to figure out where things are now.

Some new features are added to software that was already good to begin with. It's expensive as always, but is licensed for 3 computers. There's no Outlook in this edition, but I didn't think it was worth the jump in price to get it.

Office 2007 Home and Student

Strengths: Very good user interface and updated. A bit of time to get used to.

Weakness: None really that I can see at this point.

I have been using word 97 for the past 6 years and to get this new version of Office 2007 Home and Student is very refreshing. It takes a bit of time getting use to because because word 97 seems so old after using and seeing this one.

Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student

Strengths: Word has many new 'ease of usage' buttons. PowerPoint has become so easy even for a novice to use. Unique OneNote proves worthy.

Weakness: No Outlook as part of Student/Home version and no Publisher as well. These 2 come in handy very often and don't come as a part of this package unfortunately.

The essentials of Microsoft updated and more user friendly than ever. I recommend highly for anyone who needs the basics, plus some, for their work, school, and home use. The price is worth the products.

Product Review for Microsoft Office Home and Student...

Strengths: Extensively debugged during beta testing. Full, complete (not scaled-down) versions of the programs New Ribbon feature eliminates endless dropdown menus. Has most features needed by the home user.

Weakness: VBA can’t get data from Web sites. Need 3rd party macro to interface between VBA and Web. Word lacks right click context menu to count text block’s chars--needed to fill out this box with char limit.

I was a Beta Testers for Microsoft Office 2007, and submitted about 150 problem reports for this product during Beta testing. I will be reviewing Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. I had a particular project in mind for Microsoft Office but was wondering whether it was legitimate under the license agreement. I called the Microsoft Anti-Piracy Hotline at 1-800-RU-LEGIT, and asked the customer service person who answered the phone if my proposed use Microsoft Office Home and Student was legitimate. I was shocked when she said that Microsoft cannot advise me as to the legal uses of this product. She suggested that I have an attorney interpret the licensing agreement. I recommended that Microsoft develop a list of valid and invalid uses of this product. She said she would forward my recommendation to management. This is poor. Microsoft should not expect users of Home and Student to contact their attorneys to see if a proposed use violates the licensing agreement.
The project I developed using Microsoft Excel VBA and a third party Macro Program involves visiting two web sites, gathering data, pasting this data into an Excel worksheet, analyzing the data, reporting the results, and making recommendations based on the results. The project comprises 19 Excel macros having 5209 lines of code. With a project this large, it is essential that code show the line numbers of the code. Unfortunately in Excel VBE, line numbers are not shown. One has to click on a line of code to see its line number.
The only major bug I found in this product occurs when one attempts to print a large Excel spreadsheet in landscape mode. Although the spreadsheet appears correct on the screen, when one attempts to print it in landscape mode, the sections of the spreadsheet which would be outside the normal portrait area are jumbled. I have forwarded this problem on to Microsoft tech support. Large spreadsheets print perfectly in portrait mode.
A major defect in the understandability of the Excel VBA code required to be used in R1C1 format formulas having nested IF statements is readily seen when one attempts to understand or later modify the following correct code which propagates the specified formula throughout the specified range:

RC indicates the active or base cell, which starts off as W2. R[-1]C indicates the previous row and the same column (W1). Likewise, RC[+1] would indicate the same row and the next column(X2). And R[+1]C[-1] indicates the next row and the previous column (V3). Unfortunately, Microsoft provides very little documentation on how such R1C1 format formulas having nested IFs are to be constructed, or how they are to be interpreted. Neither Excel help nor the Microsoft Knowledge Base gives any examples of R1C1 format formulas having nested If statements. Through trial and error, for example, I discovered that the number of parentheses to use at the end of the formula is exactly the number of IF statements used. During Beta testing I complained to Microsoft about how difficult it is to develop, understand, and maintain such code. Due to time constraints, they were unwilling or unable to come up with an interpreter or translater to allow one to write the formula code using structured logic. The interpreter would then convert to the required code in R1C1 format. A reverse interpreter would then convert formulas in the R1C1 format back to structured programming format. By the way, if the last row containing data (LstRowData) is 1000, for example, the above formula propagates itself through the range W2 through W1000. Then whenever the data in one of the referenced cells changes, Excel recomputes the formulas throughout the range W2:W1000.
But when all is said and done, I could not have completed my project if Microsoft Excel did not work as well as it does. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007.

microsoft 2007 student and office edition

Strengths: The product came within a week, and was just as promised

Weakness: I did have difficulty verifying the progress of the shipment, but i think that is a factor of the us post office, not the retailer.

Very pleased with the product. the price was phenomenal, and it was delivered! I would shop with them again. at the minimum, i will always price check with them before shopping elsewhere.

Excellent Upgrade

Strengths: Faster & leaner than Office 2003.

Weakness: None yet.

I was concerned beforehand about dealing with the new ribbon interface, but after 5 years with Office 2003, I had no difficulty adjusting to the changes. Anything not readily apparent from working with the software was easily addressed by using the help function. I actually prefer the new interface to the old one.

Office 2007

Strengths: more image editing features; can save as PDF format; licensed for 3 computers

Weakness: difficult to find commonly used features; using up lots of RAM to work

I bought this because I wanted to have a legit copy of MS Office. I like the old versions better. The common features that I used in the older versions is difficult to find in this 2007 version. I guess I just have to put some time into using it. It requires a lot of RAM on your system in order to run smoothly. I had 1GB of RAM and had to upgrade to 2GB. The main thing I like about it is the ability to save as PDF format and that the license is for 3 computers (if it's for your own use--not to share with others).

Office 2007 Home and Student (Retail)

Strengths: Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint. Pretty much all most people need. Reasonable price for this package. 3 household pc license.

Weakness: Onenote is not very useful would rather have Outlook which is not included

Overall this package is well priced for what it includes. Eventhough it doesn't have Outlook most people can make do with outlook express or a web based email. One warning is that the Powerpoint file is not exactly downward compatible. Presentations may look or function differently depending which version of Powerpoint you use. The fact they the retail license allows you to install this software on three computers in your home is a definite plus.

Easer to live with then without...

Strengths: This version is affordable. I am thinking I only need one activation, perhaps I can sell the other 2 on ebay like I see others doing which will really make this affordable software for me.

Weakness: One bugger that irks me is MS Office always asking me if I want to save a blank page when I go to close. My personal opinion is that One Note falls short when compared to Evernote.

I tried to use the other office products. I really did. Just not the same at all. Always worring if this or that will be okay with Word.

My DD and I need MS Office for school and about every thing. My last copy of 2003 MS Office did not let me down, I figure 2007 Office will continue to be the most popular Office used in the future to come.

Strengths: lots of features, slick new interface

Weakness: interface takes some getting used to

office 2007 home and student comes with word (super-typewriter with thesaurus, mailmerge, etc), excel spreadsheets and analysis, and powerpoint (presentations) and something called one-note which helps with sharing and commenting (I think). License allows for installation on up to 3 Computers. If you need database software, Access comes in the professional version which is more expensive.

Office 2007 - Nice update!

Strengths: Great interface, as others say, once you are used to it

Weakness: To adjust some properties in Excel and Word you still have to open a properties box like in older versions of Office--I wish these were accessible in buttons on the ribbon.

This is a nice program bundle--I only needed Word and Office so it was definitely cheaper to buy this version. You do need to get familiar with the new interface, but it's really intuitive once you do.

Excellent Product and Very Reasonable Price

Strengths: If you already have Office installed, say, from an OEM Preinstall that came with a New Computer, you only need to enter the Product License Key; no need to reinstall Office.

Weakness: none that I can think of.

VERY good product, almost the most current version of Office (I guess MS is releasing the new 2010 version ?); but plenty of Rich Features and POWER, especially for Students and Home Office use. PLUS this particular version of the product, comes with a 3-Seat License: you can legally install the Product on three PCs.

Office 2007 vs 2003

Strengths: Compatibility with software at school.

Weakness: Compatibility with 2003 and earlier versions.

After years of using office 2003, moving to 2007 is quite an experience. Major changes were made to the basic layout of the home pages. The idea was to make things easier, but I'm not totally convinced that this is a good thing. Time will tell of this truly is an improvement in the ease of functionality.

MS Office 2007

Strengths: Ease of access to all formatting / editing functions for the document easily accessed with the tabular setup.

Weakness: Learning curve to find out how to format New format for saving - possible incompatibility issues with older versions

For the price I'm very happy with the product. Nice to have the 'latest and greatest' in a product to ensure having all of the features needed when creating a document, spreadsheet, or slideshow. It's just a matter of getting used to it and mastering the new interface.

MS Office Home and Student 2007

Strengths: It's working great for my hobbies and home based business.

Weakness: A little awkward at first getting use to the new layout from the previous versions of Word/Excel.

I like the 3 applications to download instead of purchasing it pre-installed on the new computer I just purchased. I would definitely purchase them separatetly in the future. Thanks.

Only reasonable priced Office version for home

Strengths: Windows VISTA compatible, full product with media, license to install on 3 computers, reasonable priced, compatible with Office at work.

Weakness: Not much especially with the included $25 rebate

I got this for my new home PC with Windows VISTA. It came with the CD media which made installation easy. I like the fact I can install this on 3 computers. This is the only reasonably priced Office version as I only needed Word, Excel and PowerPoint. I don't use the included OneNote and at home who needs Outlook when there are so many Web based email around like gmail and yahoo mail.

Wonderful

Strengths: Very many new features

Weakness: Same as the strength

I liked this version a lot. It has so many things. I could do
multiple things while making presentations. Sometimes I don't even need to use Photoshop. You wouldn't believe that I use powerpoint to make very high quality poster. I have mostly used Word and PPT. Menu icons have been nicely arranged. The document can be saved in different formats like docx and 1998-20XX compatible format etc.
It deserves a try.

Office 2007 Home and Student

Strengths: Easy to install. Includes Powerpoint which I find really useful.

Weakness: Takes up a considerable amount of hard disk space.

I upgraded my computer from WINDOWS XP to VISTA and needed to get the latest version of OFFICE, especially WORD and POWERPOINT. Excel is also important for me.

I purchased this version and am glad that one software package included WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT. It also includes ONENOTE but I don't use that currently.

It is important to remember to save files in a format compatible with earlier versions of the products if you will be sharing with other users who are using older versions.

Some of the changes in screen layouts and commands needed some getting used to but after a while everything was OK.

Upgrade to Microsoft Home and Student

Strengths: I like it's new look and new features. Easy to use once you figure out where everything is.

Weakness: At first you don't know where everything is. Price isn't bad for $119. Doesn't come with Outlook.

I think this is a big upgrade from the lastest Microsoft Office. If you can spend the money, get Office Standard with Outlook if you need it. Other Microsoft products have cooler applications if you can afford it.

Microsoft Office 2007 Home & Student

Strengths: New look

Weakness: No outlook, runs a bit buggy with my Vista.

What happened to outlook? I kept searching trying to figure out where they put it, was it renamed? Visually I really like word, much more eye pleasing. At first glance, it appears a little overwhelming to find something. One annoying issue that I've had is the need to adjust the paragraph lines to single and check "don't add spaces box" before I can begin a letter. Otherwise, I happy with the new version, I can live with it sans Outlook.

Strengths: 3 user license for most people's Office needs (better value)

Weakness: No Outlook, unusual new interface, No Publisher

While still expensive, Office 2007 is essential to working with almost any documents in a decidedly Microsoft world. This software package contains all the Office applications most people need: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. However, I am not at all impressed with the new menu system that Microsoft has introduced. I would have been much happier if there was an option to revert to "classic view." Even so, this is the way of the future, and one must upgrade to the new version to avoid being left in the dust.

New!!.. Office 2007 Home and Student (Full Product,...

Strengths: The new office 2007 has many new features, such as ribbon, new look GUI, and so on. suitable menu composition for home user. cheap price.

Weakness: As it says, this is for basic users. This will give some weaknesses for advanced users not to use outlook.

Although it just needs some time for getting use to because this office 2007 has many refreshing functions, this gives us much more helpful functions. Further more, cheaper price let me use this genuine software. As described, if it includes outlook in the package, more people may be satisfied with this software package.

Excellent Upgrade

Strengths: Increses Productivity

Weakness: Docx format not compatible (without update) with earlier office versions

I've used the beta for months and I am excited to have the final version. The new ribbon feature makes it easier to find and use different tools. Options are very well organized!
