One of the best values going

Strengths: - Low cost per gig - Reliable

I own 4 of these drives. 2 are used as internal IDE drives, the other 2 as external USB 2.0 drives.


I can't understand why people keep blaming this drive for boot sector corruption when the power shuts off. I've never had that happen. Personally, those reviews seem a little suspect (almost as if they were written by the same person).


These drives have been nothing but reliable. Very fast. Very dependable. Western Digital drives are also very very good, but I've found Maxtor drives absolutely equal in quality, but lower in price. I've owned maybe a dozen WD drives and probably 30 or more Maxtor drives (I build my own systems). The only time I've had any Maxtor drive fail was when the thing was 10+ years old and had been used extensively. Every hard drive has a limited life and I've never once had a Maxtor fail prematurely.


If you can get this drive for a good price, don't hesitate to pick one up. Highly recommended.

Strengths: cheap; return policy!

Weakness: unstable

I have never had as many problems with a hard drive than with the large storage capacity Maxtor products. I have sent a total of 4 returns for 4 different drives. If you like your data dont buy Maxtor.

Strengths: Cheap for the capacity, very fast operation

Weakness: Boot sector may get currupted if power supply shuts off, spindle and wheel mechanism is not as robust as Western Digital devices

I am very satisfied with this product as far as writing and reading speeds, capacity and price. But the only time I was disappointed was perhaps the very last time as I got rid of this drive. I bought Western Digital Hard Drive which is known to work better for boot, as I own another Western Digital 80GB drive.

Strengths: exceptional speed, easy to use software and very easy to install.

Weakness: Mitght have to get ati card unless you have the new microsoft office xp software.

This hard drive is amazing. I just upgraded from a crappy 20 gig hardrive that came stock with a computer that I bought about 3 years ago. The hard drive is fast and can hold alot. One thing I liked the most about it is that it allowed yuo to copy your data from your old hard drive to your new harddrive. Overall its a great buy for a gamer and a music lover, and dvd ripper.

Strengths: Fast drive!!

Weakness: Boot Sector gets correpted!!

I must of formated my drive 2 times already it does not like to restart when it crashes on XP Pro. I crashed on XP Pro and turn the PC off and on using the button because I crashed and nothing else worked. When I rebooted I got A DISK READ ERROR OCCURED. Then I could not log onto Safe mode or even see the Windows XP screen. I might have to reformat AGAIN!!!! AAAARRRRRR I should of bought WD!!
