High quality HDTV

Strengths: High picture quality, nice looking, light weight

Weakness: Sound quality needs improvement

I used a Samsung CRT monitor for several years and thought it’s a good product. So I decided to try this Samsung T220HD TV to replace the old CRT TV. Even though it’s not true 1080p, the picture quality is very good. The channels show a lot details although blur in fast action, which I think may be due to compression in cable signals. The sound is not as good as picture. Fortunately, it has an outlet for connection of external speakers.

Samsung T220HD

Strengths: beautiful picture quality after tuning, good size for an office tv/monitor, HD ready

Weakness: none

Bought this monitor/tv to replace my broken 20" CRT TV. The picture looks red in the beginning. After tuning, it is just amazing. It's crystal crisp for HD channels. It also serves as an external monitor for my laptop. The size is just right for a bedroom/office TV. Highly recommended!

Gorgeous looking TV / Computer monitor

Strengths: Serves 2 purposes for us in the kids room. TV and Computer monitor. Picture quality is great. Sleek design.

Weakness: Can't tilt it when used as a computer screen.

We were going to buy a separate TV and then computer monitor. Then we found this at Costco, Perfect size for our daughters room and now serves as a TV / Computer monitor with a click of the remote. Very sleek design and the quality is what you would expect from Samsung. Only downside is that when using as a computer screen it is not tiltable.

Thanks for hints. When you say non tiltable, do you mean from vertical down or up; or neither?
Forgive my ignorance. I am trying to decide which monitor to buy to replace my faithful old IIyama CRT.

Big bang for the buck

Strengths: Style, TV & Monitor combo, HDMI inputs.

Weakness: Not Full HD 1080p.

I bought this monitor/HDTV after much comparison with others (Vizio & Viewsonic) in the 22" range. I chose this because of 2 reasons: 1)Costco has a very good deal compared to the same style TVs elsewhere at BestBuy, Fry's etc. 2)Serves as a monitor with high resolution and HDTV for my bedroom. At Costco this was running for 379.99 and thats the cheapest in all aspects. Although the Samsung website declares that this TV is 1080p compatible, it doesn't say so on the box. The next one which is T240HD(24" HDTV) is Full HD 1080p compatible but is $100 more expensive. This TV works great and the clarity is awesome. Especially the Contrast ratio is good. I have no dead pixels so far either.

T220HD

Strengths: Nice features and functions, easy to use and switch from pc to tv, elegant surface, just good combination!

Weakness: TV picture is not as good as I thought, but it's just fine.

It's a very excited experience on ordering such wonderful product. I ordered this monitor online for my son before the week that he's in the nikey tennis camp, the delivery was just on time that I received the product during the week of my son's gone, when my son came back from the tennis camp and stepped into his room, I fellow him and wanted to hear what he says, heard "wow" just what I was waiting for, that also made me very happy too, thanks PriceGrabber.com and Buydig.com, everything went very well!

Hi, I was wondering if I could ask a question about the product you purchased. I'm looking at buying an HD-type of monitor myself, figuring that an HDTV is the way to go. Then I read about your your posting & can't discern what's the difference between an HDTV vs. an HD LCD? It's driving me nuts. Please respond.

HDTVs typically have built-in tuners and lower maximum resolution than HD LCD screens. HD LCDs are typically known as monitors since they can "monitor" inbound video signals only.

HD LCDs are high performance screens that can be used to view images on a PC or they can be plugged into an external tuner that handles either 1) ATSC over the air digital TV signals, 2) cable signals or 3) dish type services. There are other signals thay can use but those are the main ones.

HDTVs can come in the form of LCD, Plasma, DLP, and rear projection. Soon we will see OLED TVs. OLEDs have all of the great attributes of LCD and Plasma and use very little electricity. Like anything they will be very expensive at first.

Hereis what I tell my family and friends about buying an HDTV and or PC screen:

decide if you will use it to play games. If so get a monitor or expect only moderate quality game images.
If you get a HDTV get at least 1080P not 1080i or only 720p.
Wait as long as you can to get it cause prices will continue to fall.
Don't buy insurance. It's a waste.
22" LCDs are the sweet spot for monitors now.
Don't get a monster Screen for a small room, you'llonly notice the flaws in the picture more. There is a correct size for each viewing distance. Look it up on the web.
Contrast, grey to grey (black/white) and luminance numbers are not as meaningful as anyone says. There are lower limits but check out how you like the picture first.

Last 120hz screens are becoming the norm soon. Check and see if you can get that and 1080p or at least a refresh rate under 8ms.

Hope this helps

Colossus, to answer your question more simply, an HDTV is designed to be a full TV set (i.e. TV-grade speakers, large screens for viewing across a room, complex remote controls, extra connectors for VCRs, etc.), whereas an HD LCD is primarily designed to be a computer monitor, but can handle HDTV-grade video signals. An HD LCD therefore would likely be a better choice if you are looking for a smaller unit in, say, a bedroom rather than the center of a home entertainment center. Hope that helps.

1st, thank you guys for replying. Both of your posts from above have helped greatly. I was planning on utilizing whichever item I buy to play computer games & watch blu-ray movies, & eventually hook up a 360. Hopefully, my purchase will meet my needs. However, there's a discrepancy that I need cleared up. I know Wikipedia isn't the most reliable source of info, but it states that 1080p (which this item claims to be able to achieve) is a resolution of 1920x1080. However, this item only has a resolution of 1680x1050. Wiki further states that the pic is actually "stretched" to achieve full 1080p, which actually distorts the quality, but the consumer doesn't notice it. So, my question is, am I correct?

Well, I don't know enough about this particular monitor to say for sure, but from Samsung's site it appears that it does accept 1080p signals via HDMI. Since the panel's resolution is lower (technically I guess you could refer to it as 1050p), the monitor knows to downscale images to 1680x1050 resolution.

Honestly, tho, on a screen this small 720p, 1080p, and this practical 1050p will all look the same. Since the monitor shares the same aspect ratio as a full HD signal, you shouldn't notice any distortion.
