I love this processor. It's a definite design improvement over the fragile Athlon XP, yet 939 seem to be the immediate future. Still, it's a great CPU at a great price. Running test version of Windows XP Pro 64-bit with no problems whatsoever!

Strengths: Superb 3D and game performance and very respectable multi-tasking.

This is a worthy competitor for the Intel P4EE. If you are thinking of buying Intel, think again. I've just switched to AMD for gaming computers and am very happy with my choice.

I went with the ClawHammer core because it overclocks the same as the Newcastle but gets better performance gains per cycle. Haven't OC'ed it too much yet. I went with the ClawHammer core because it overclocks the same as the Newcastle but gets better performance gains per cycle. Haven't OC'ed it too much yet. With this chip and my Raptor array, my system boots 100% in about 20 seconds. Its speed is unbelievable. The only drawbacks to this chip are its inability to run memory in dual-channel (a huge drawback if you're a real performance freak, as dual-channel is blazing fast) and its socket 754 design, which is hardly future-proof. If you have the extra $, definitely go socket 939. However, if you need a new rig today and have decided on 754, this is a great processor to get. The 3200+ is the better value for the money, but since I was planning on spending $300 on that and then prices dropped, I just spent the same on this chip.

The athlon 64 3400 has a much higher fsb and is a much better chip. I can't say how many times I have upgraded my hardware expecting a big difference to see it only marginally faster. Well, when I put together my machine with the ASUS K8V and this processor, it runs like I expected all those other hardware upgrades to be: extremely fast. I have never seen My Computer in Windows to popup immediately like this does. Then I double-click my C: drive and that pops up immediately, very quick. Booting to XP, the three dots scrolling only scroll for about 5 seconds, then up pops the desktop. This was all pretty steep in price, but a bargain compared to other places.

Strengths: Fast! 64bit!

Weakness: 64-bit useless in Windows (unless you are beta testing WinXP-64)

I bought this card earlier this year. It was really expensive then, but the price has dropped considerably. I am running Fedora Core 2 and Windows XP. I anticipate the release of Half-life 2 for the 64-bit processor; however, we first need to get the release of Windows XP for 64-bit computers
